A Journey into the wild; The Riverhead

On a very sunny mid week day, I decided to swap the suit for a pair of shorts and “flip-flops” and head to a more conservative “eatery”after having being sick to death of Auckland’s crazy “trendy” cafe’s where everything may as wel be served out of a hat…..well not really. My first initial thoughts when i saw the place were “Welcome to Paradise”, getting away from the hustle and bustle, and some what pretentiousness of todays food critics…

Such a beautiful big old building that had been done up respectfully. Perched on rivers edge makes it somewhat remarkable and in general, an all round lovely location. Seating was efficient but a bit gutted we didn’t book as i ended sitting next to a very awkwardly placed wall. Nevertheless, coffee orders came through and everything seemed swift. Thats where something hit the wall, maybe it was lunchtime rush, but it took a good 13 or so minutes to get coffee delivered, and for me that’s just not good enough. When it came, it was good, so i happily ordered another (hoping it wouldn’t take so long).

For lunch i decided to ask the waiter for their preference, (hoping to get some crazy choice). Upon arrival i got what was called “The real woodchoppers” pizza, very tasty and well seasoned, but still just a pizza. The portobello mushrooms were very “garlicy” and i loved it. It was a meat-lovers heaven and it definitely had the smoky outdoor flavour to it which was definitely a nice change.

Its such a nice place to go to escape the hustle and bustle of the CBD and i will definitely be going again. The beauty and the wonder of Coatesville is simply remarkable. If you’re keen to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life then head out to “The Riverhead”, but make sure you book!
